In all sincerity, CSP 105 has been enjoyable for me due to the focus it has upon on race and ethnicity which is something I deeply identify with. So, when we did the second long paper in which we had to connect two different sources I became extremely passionate. In my paper, I met Tommy Orange and wrote about his essay prologue in “There. There.” because I could feel and understand his anger through what Native Americans have been through. However, my passion was met with obstacles as my rough draft work was really rough. Conferences with my professor ended up helping me realize what tricks I could incorporate into making my writing style simplistic yet sophisticated.

Most of my favorite papers were the short papers that honestly did not end as short as it should have been. The first short paper was about Blaxit by Ulysses Burley M.D who had written an article about what would happen if African Americans chose to leave America which would be taking their culture with them. His background on this topic made it more interesting due to the amount of social activism he partakes in and due to the people, items, and topics he chose. This made me remember black culture’s heavy influence upon American culture as a whole with music styles, musicians, and much more even medical influence.

Despite all of this, my favorite assignment was the short paper based on Visual Rhetoric and that means I had to explore the communication that visual images had. Through this, I met an artist named Kara Walker that uses a gothic, dark style in which she uses black shadow figures on a white background to explain stories regarding race, women’s rights, sexuality, and other controversial topics. Being able to write about this topic was genuinely interesting and allowed me to use analysis and truly try to understand her truth sending messages and take upon worldly issues. Nonetheless, I feel like all the work I have done in CSP 105 has allowed me to creatively open up to writing and expand on topics I am passionate about through simplistic writing.
